THE ART OF GEORGE RODRIGUE INTRODUCTION BY
GINGER DANTO This long overdue retrospective features 265 paintings spanning Rodrigue's 40-year career. With a text by art historian and former ARTnews correspondent Ginger Danto, this is the first outside view and analysis of Rodrigue's paintings in book form. In addition to his best known Cajun and Blue Dog paintings, it covers all the distinct phases of his work, beginning with his college Pop and Abstract canvases, followed by oak trees and Cajun folklife, and ending with his increasingly conceptual Blue Dog works and recent Hurricane paintings. GINGER DANTO is a writer living in New York City, who specializes in the arts. For fifteen years she lived in Paris where she covered cultural topics for such publications as ARTnews (as Paris correspondent), the International Herald Tribune, the New York Times, the Village Voice, and Dance Magazine, among others. Danto is currently working on a novel set in France and Spain. MICHAEL LEWIS is the author of several books, including the international bestsellers Liar's Poker and The New New Thing, and is a contributing editor to the New York Times Magazine. He holds a M.A. in Art History from Princeton University. Hardcover: 256 pages Publisher: Harry N Abrams; (November 2003) ISBN: 0810946270 |

WHY IS BLUE DOG BLUE?
George Rodrigue combines preposterous puns with all-new whimsical Blue Dog artwork to go where other color guides are too yellow-bellied to tread. Readers of all ages will giggle and sigh as Blue Dog changes her color from Red or Green to Auburn or Chartreuse in this award-winning book.
But more importantly, this book is a fun-filled demonstration of how artists
use color to enrich their art. (see
